The Blancpain Le Brassus Split-Second Chrono Power

As the oldest continuing watchmaking brand, Blancpain is known as one of the fathers of diving watches. Founded by Jehan-Jacques Blancpain in 1735, Blancpain is known for varying their designs throughout the years. Blancpain is most famously known for its diving watches; its huge breakthrough with diving models, like the Blancpain Fifty fathoms MIL-SPEC 5008-1130-B52A, was adding a moisture indicator and a dual gasket crown system to ensure water resistance. While other watch companies gave in to the quartz trend, Blancpain decided to focus their brand towards exclusivity by creating mechanical watch complications that functioned as a minute repeater, a tourbillon, a perpetual calendar, a moon phase indication, and flyback chronograph. With over 285 years in the business, Blancpain knows how to stand their ground with its timepieces.

Blancpain Le Brassus Split-Second Chronograph

One of Blancpain’s greatest inventions was the Blancpain Le Brassus Split-Second Chrono Power 4246P-3442A-55B. With this watch, Blancpain showed buyers that there could be complications in elegance. This Blancpain dial shows the date, split-second chronograph, and the power reserve. This rare watch was limited to 100 pieces to emphasize its exclusivity. As one goes winding the crown, giving the watch power, the watch’s power reserve indicator starts facing the left end of the spectrum to indicate it is fully powered. The unique split-second feature on this watch allows wearers to measure two separate times at once. This watch has durability and grace everyone’s been looking for.

Split Second Chronograph and Power Reserve Complications

Blancpain enhanced their complications when they added the split-second and power reserve to their watches. The split-second chronograph feature was made possible due to a rattrapante mechanism inside the watch that holds a double chronograph, allowing the bottom second hand to stop while the top continues to measure time. On the dial, the power reserved scale is identified at 12 o’clock by a shallow cut. This caliber F 186 power reserve is charged by turning the crown until the marker meets the left end of the cut. When fully powered, the watch holds a 40-hour power reserve.
